Five Key Moments from the 2022 Seoul E-Prix

Formula E Gets Some Seoul

When the Seoul E-Prix was officially announced in 2019, there was eager anticipation throughout the paddock for Formula E to make its official debut in South Korea.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the race’s inaugural event for Season 6 was long delayed but after three years of waiting, we finally took to Seoul’s city streets in Season 8.

The race marked the final weekend of the 2021/22 campaign and the unique street circuit didn’t disappoint by delivering an action-packed double-header.

It’s fair to say that it was worth the wait, and we’re excited to return to this incredible city in Season 9.

Lucas’ Form Continues

Lucas di Grassi is a stats man, and as one of Formula E’s most experienced and successful drivers, his desire to be the best fuels his own personal performance every single weekend.

It was clear that Lucas was in fine form after winning Race Two in London, but when he touched down in Seoul, he had one clear target – scoring his 1,000th point in Formula E.

His aspirations yielded a masterful performance throughout the weekend, and by capitalising upon every opportunity, he qualified second for the penultimate race of the season.

A lighting start pushed Lucas to the lead after only one corner, but due to a lack of grip in the wet, he fell to third later on the opening lap.

Despite facing a slight pace disadvantage, he remained in control throughout and delivered an expert performance to take home third – the 39th podium of his career which paved the way to his 1,000th point.

In the history of Formula E, no other driver has scored more and ahead of Gen3, Lucas is set to continually add to this streak in the future.

Edo the Undefeated

Edoardo Mortara faced a challenging baptism in Seoul when the Swiss-Italian picked up a puncture in Race One, but in the season finale, he was determined to set the record straight.

By setting the pace in FP3, it was clear that Edo was comfortable in the cockpit and with a confident drive in qualifying, he secured his place on the front row.

He swiftly dispatched of polesitter Antonio Felix da Costa at the start and edged ahead of the field to build an advantage.

Over the entire race, Edo was ultimately untouchable and took the chequered flag to take home his fourth victory of the season and end the campaign on a high.

Vice World Champions

Lucas’ haul of 15 points from Race One and Edo’s helping of 25 from Race Two proved to be crucial to our World Championship hopes and with 16 races completed, Season 8 was our most successful campaign yet.

By scoring a total of 295 points, we surpassed our previous points-scoring record from Season 7 by more than double, taking five wins, 10 podiums and top-10 finishes in every E-Prix.

ROKiT Venturi Racing took home a landmark vice World Teams’ Championship title as a result and it’s second vice title in two years after Edo finished second in the Drivers’ Standings in 2021.

The Race to 100

A lot has happened since Formula E’s inaugural race in Beijing and in the Season 8 finale, we were reminded of our journey to date.

As one of Formula E’s founding teams, ROKiT Venturi Racing has been present on the grid since day dot and we have moved from strength to strength in our battle to race 100.

When the chequered flag waved in Race Two, a chapter came to a close with the end of Gen2 and ahead of our partnership with Maserati for Season 9, a bright future awaits.
