The FIA Formula E Championship returns to a sense of the known as the all-electric series returns to the jewel in the motorsport crown, Monaco. Not only is this Maserati MSG Racing’s home event, but also for the first time we will be challenging two races around the winding streets as it becomes the second double header of the season.

The advantage of the unknown is removed with every driver on the grid having some experience of the Monaco circuit.Last year the results didn’t quite fall Maserati MSG Racing’s way, but the Maserati Tipo Folgore has been showing good improvements throughout the season so far.The team and drivers are hoping that this progression will see them fighting at the sharp end of the grid for a good haul of points over the two races, taking the opportunity to be on the podium whenever possible.

Miami was a learning curve, showing areas that the team needed to work on, but also a display of how efficient and affective the team can be. Albeit ending in a DNF, Jake Hughes’ race strategy that moved him from the back of the grid to being in contention for a podium was a startling reminder to our competitors that the team is here to fight.

The Monaco double header also sees the return of Pit Boost, adding another technical element to the weekend. The mandatory 30 second fast charge stop will be in effect for Saturday’s race, with Sunday’s edition without it.

IN THEIR WORDS

Jake Hughes, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing: “I’m really excited to be taking part in the first Monaco double header in Formula E history. It’s a fantastic track – the more you get to drive of it the better in my opinion, so I’m goingto be loving the extra race we have this weekend. Not only is it a track I love, but it’s also the team’s home race so a very important one all round. We shouldn’t forget how exciting and what a privilege it is to have our home race inMonaco, but it’s also a double point scoring weekend. Not that we needed anymore reason to give this weekend absolutely everything.  I’m hoping to put on a good show for everybody:everyone involved with the team and all the fans as well.”

Stoffel Vandoorne, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing: “Monaco is a special race for me. Not only is it the team’s home race but, as a Monaco resident, it’s mine too. Everyone loves Monaco, it’s the highlight of the Formula E calendar. This year, we get two opportunities with it – one with Pit Boost again and then the second one as more of a classic race. It’s going to be a very strategic race weekend, especially with Pit Boost on Saturday. It’s the first time we have a double header in Monaco so it’ll be a very dynamic weekend. We need to make the right calls for the right results, but I’ve got my eye on some new trophies for the cabinet. Overall, I’m feeling optimistic about the weekend: racing around a track I love and have scored good results at in the past.”

Cyril Blais, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing: “Not only is the Monaco race weekend always a special one for us as our home race but this year, we’re making history as the first ever Monaco double header for Formula E. It will be incredible to race twice in front of our home crowd who always give us the best reception and, after a difficult race in Miami, where we saw so much potential taken from us, our home double header would be the best place to get back on the front foot. We will treat this race the same as any other race: a doubleheader with a big point scoring opportunity and a car, drivers and team who are ready to optimise the weekend. Our heads will be down and focused to extract everything we know the Maserati Tipo Folgore is capable of.”

Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse: “With the highly anticipated Formula E double-header in Monaco approaching, we’re thrilled to return to this historic street circuit. Monaco holds a special place in our hearts, not only for its iconic track but also for our wealth of motorsport heritage. Maserati has important motorsport memories here, where we won in Formula 1 in 1948, 1956 and 1957, triumphs that testify to our long-lasting motorsport heritage. At the same time, the Maserati MSG Racing team is eager to tackle their home circuit, feeling the weight of history on our shoulders on these legendary roads. This race is no ordinary event: it is a celebration of our past and a step towards our future, as we begin the countdown to Maserati’s 100 years in racing. We’re ready to take up the challenge and continue our tradition of excellence”.
